It is time for a change at the PUD

| October 18, 2018 3:00 AM

The president of the five-member Grant County PUD Board of Commissioners is Terry Brewer running for re-election.

Elected in 2006, his financial leadership has resulted in the current $1.3 billion PUD debt, and the 2017 debt payment of $89,328,000, 2018 payment of $87,266,000, 2019 payment of $87,533,000, 2020 payment of $89,223,000, 2021 payment of $91,977,000 and 2022 payment of $91,67$,000.

In the proposed 2019 Budget Priorities, lower rate increases from 2021 on are projected. With existing debt upon our children and grandchildren until 2044, does this make any sense?

At Brewer’s prior position as Executive Director at the Grant County Economic Development Council, with less than four employees, the bookkeeper was accused off embezzling $186,533.21 over 2 1/2 years (Grant County Superior Court Case No.08-2-00279-5).

The PUD is in need of new commissioners with actual business and financial experience, and bringing the public back into the PUD. Candidates Judy Wilson and Nelson Cox have that experience and are committed to do just that.
