| October 10, 2018 1:00 AM

Othello girls soccer snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Proser 5-1 on the road, followed by a 2-0 victory at home against Toppenish.

Othello sits at fifth place in the Central Washington Athletic Conference at 2-2; the top six teams reach the district playoffs.

Royal loses twice

Royal fell to 2-5 in the South Central Athletic Conference East after two losses against College Place and Wahluke.

The Knights could not overcome the wind and second-place College Place to earn the upset and lost 1-0 in a shootout.

“When we heard the forecast we all figured we would see shootout,” head coach Jens Jensen said. “It was so windy during the shootout that the ball had a hard time staying on the spot. We had one kicker who had to reset the ball at least seven times before she was finally able to shoot.”

College Place outscored Royal 3-2 in the shootout.

Wahluke splits league games

Wahluke lost to first-place Warden 4-1 in a makeup game before rallying to defeat Royal 4-1.

Aaliyah Escamilla and Ashlyn Yamane had a goal and an assist each for the Cougars.
