OTHELLO — The filing period is open through Nov. 5 for two seats on the East Columbia Basin Irrigation District board of directors. People who want to file for a seat must "reside in the county or counties where the district is situated," according to a press release from the ECBID.

Each director will serve a three-year term, beginning in January. The election will be Dec. 11.

The two open seats are Director Division 2 and Director Division 4. Boe Clauson is the incumbent in Director Division 2, which includes a Grant County portion of the ECBID, with Wheeler Road as the north boundary. The east and south boundaries are the Grant-Adams county line. The district extends to the ECBID district line in the west.

Director Division 4 is all in Adams County, with the Grant-Adams county line as the north boundary and the Adams-Franklin county line as the south boundary. It too extends to the ECBID boundary in the west. The east boundary is Booker Road to Cunningham Road, from Cunningham Road to Fox Road, then to the Adams-Franklin county line. Duaine Anderson is the incumbent.

Prospective candidates can get more information at the ECBID main office, 55 N. Eighth St., Othello, 509-488-9671. The candidacy petition must be signed by at least 10 qualified voters in the director division and must be filed with ECBID on or before Nov. 5.

To qualify as a voter, an individual must own land within the ECBID and vote in the director division where they live or the division closest to their residence.
