MATTAWA — A Mattawa man was arrested after surrendering to law enforcement officers during a standoff Saturday evening, then transported to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital after a possible opioid overdose.

Samuel Gonzalez, 55, was sought on charges of first-degree assault (domestic violence), according to a press release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. A 50-year-old woman claimed Gonzalez stabbed her in the face with a broken cane.

Gonzalez was reported to be at a residence in the 14000 block of Road 25 Southwest Saturday night. Sheriff’s deputies and the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team went to the house “and negotiated Gonzalez’ eventual surrender,” the press release said.

After being taken into custody Gonzalez’ “level of consciousness decreased (and) officers feared he had overdosed on opiates.” Officers administered Narcan to the suspect, and he was transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center, then to CWH.
