WARDEN — The conditions were adverse, the bench was short and it was the second night of a back-to-back.

And yet, Warden was able to find enough offense to beat Connell 2-0.

“It’s definitely rough on injuries and recuperating and not having time to adjust from yesterday,” head coach Hannah Mohs said. “Anything we needed to work on we didn’t have a practice in between to work on so that clearly made a big difference and then we have quite a few injuries right now.”

Warden was without its all-state forward Aubree Skone, coupled with the blustery wind made for an up-and-down night offensively.

Grace Richins had a shot hit the crossbar, a free kick was overran or a seemingly open shot on goal was deflected by an errant Eagle.

One of those nights.

However, Bailey Whitney scored off a corner kick during first-half stoppage time to light up the scoreboard. Whitney added another left-footed laser in the 61st minute for some insurance.

“She was struggling in the middle,” Mohs said. “Connell — they have two really good girls and then I moved her up front and she immediately scored. She steps up and she has beautiful footwork and she knows where to place the ball so we had to use her somewhere.”
