Teens hit by car in Moses Lake crosswalk Monday night

| October 3, 2018 3:00 AM

MOSES LAKE — A pair of teenagers were struck by a vehicle in Moses Lake Monday night as they were crossing at a crosswalk.

Trooper Brian Moore said the teens were crossing West Broadway Avenue at South Cedar Street in a “marked crosswalk” about 8:30 p.m. Another vehicle slowed down for the boys in the right lane and effectively blocked the view of 70-year-old Miguel Miranda, of Moses Lake, who was driving a Buick LeSabre west in the left lane. Miranda ended up hitting the two boys at a low speed in the crosswalk.

“He was almost able to stop, so it was a fairly low-speed impact from what I’m being told, “ Moore explained.

The 14-year-old and 15-year-old boys were transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for treatment of minor injuries and were released from the hospital later in the evening. Miranda was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
