Lecture on children's books Wednesday

MOSES LAKE — The potential of children’s literature to tell fun and interesting stories to – and maybe change perspectives of – all ages will be the subject of a lecture at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center.

Anu Taranath, senior lecturer at the University of Washington, will talk about children’s books and how they’re “Not Just for Kids.” Admission is free.

The lecture is sponsored by the museum, the Moses Lake Public Library and the library foundation. The Fall Speakers Series is presented in cooperation with Humanities Washington.

Taranath will talk about how children’s books can provide new perspectives for readers of any age, and encourage people to look at the world in new ways. “We adults might learn some learn new lessons about how to navigate our complicated world,” she wrote. “Within these seemingly simple stories are important messages about how we think about our differences and, importantly, how we might rethink our similarities.”

The lecture will include children’s books from around the world and from different cultural groups within the U.S.

In addition to her job at UW, Taranath is a consultant for schools, businesses and government organizations.
