MOSES LAKE — An elderly Ephrata woman passed away on Tuesday from injuries she received in a collision on Monday in Moses Lake.

About 12:15 p.m. on Monday Richard Smith, 93, of Ephrata, was driving a 2006 Kia Optima north on state Route 17 in Moses Lake when he attempted to make a left turn onto Yonezawa Boulevard, despite being at a red light. He collided with a 1988 Toyota Camry driven by Serafin Corona Barajas, 65, of Warden, in the intersection, according to the Washington State Patrol

Smith was not hurt, but his passenger, 92-year-old Bernice Smith, of Ephrata, was injured in the collision and later passed away from injuries at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane Tuesday evening. Corona Barajas and his passenger, Elsa Yanez-Henriquez, 56, of Warden, were injured and transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

Richard Smith was cited for failure to stop at a red light.
