1 dead in collision near Mattawa

MATTAWA — A man from Richland died Wednesday morning after he attempted to pass near Mattawa and was struck head-on by a semi-truck.
About 7:05 a.m. Eduardo Valdenea Andreade, 20, of Richland, was driving a 1994 Honda Civic south on state Route 243, about 10 miles south of Mattawa, and reportedly attempted to pass a vehicle in heavy fog. He collided head-on with a 2018 Volvo semi-truck driven by Clint Gilbert, 52, of Othello, who was traveling north on SR-243, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Valdenea Andreade died at the scene of the collision. Gilbert was not injured. The patrol reports the official cause of the collision was Valdenea Andreade’s unsafe passing.
