2 dead in separate Grant County collisions
QUINCY and ROYAL CITY — Two people died in separate Grant County collisions Thursday evening and early Friday morning.
In the first collision Carrie Brock, 39, of Wenatchee, was driving a 2004 Lexus RX330 west on Road 5 Northwest when she reportedly lost control on the icy road about 8 p.m. Thursday evening. The Lexus reportedly struck and slid down the top of a guardrail, rolled and came to a rest on its top in an irrigation canal, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Brock’s passenger, Karen L. Brock, 73, died at the scene. Her body is in the care of the Grant County Coroner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed. Carrie Brock was seriously injured and was initially transported to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. She was later transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Two other passengers in the Lexus, 19-year-old Quynton Hamilton and a 7-year-old boy, both from Wenatchee, received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center.
The GCSO says everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and excessive speed is the “proximate” cause for the collision.
The second collision occurred about 12:30 a.m. Friday morning about five miles south of Interstate 90 near Royal City. Autumn Kynaston, 31, of Royal City, was reportedly driving a 1999 Lincoln Navigator south on Dodson Road when she lost control and the Lincoln ended up rolling three and a half times before it came to a rest in a field.
Kynaston was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected out of the Lincoln. She died at the scene and her body is in the care of the coroner’s office. The sheriff’s office says excessive speed and alcohol played roles in the collision.
