Prep roundup: ACH unable to dethrone Oakesdale at 1B state tournament
YAKIMA — Almira/Coulee-Hartline (ACH) could not derail the Oakesdale dynasty and lost in the Class 1B state volleyball tournament championship 25-13, 21-25, 25-14, 25-22.
After sweeping its first two opponents, ACH outlasted Pomeroy — the team that defeated the Warriors in last year's quarterfinals — in five sets 25-11, 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-6 to advance to the championship.
However, the lengthy semifinals coupled with the talent of Oakesdale made for a difficult final match. Logan Reed posted a monster line of 19 kills, eight blocks and two aces to lead the Nighthawks.
ACH was the only team to take a set from Oakesdale — who has won four 1B championships in a row and seven of the last eight — during the tournament.

Moses Lake's Bateman reaches state finals
FEDERAL WAY — Moses Lake junior diver Bethany Bateman placed 15th with a score of 280 at the 4A state swim meet.
“She had a couple dives that weren't quite up to what she is capable of, which took her out of the top 10, but she improved from last year and she could be in championship finals next year if she continues to develop her skills,” head coach Tony St. Onge said.
Rogers sophomore Heather Hopkins scored 407 in the finals to win the state championship.
Moses Lake's Lauren Tolley scored 116.60 in preliminaries and was unable to advance to the semifinals.
