Othello Huskies win season finale at Cheney

| November 7, 2018 12:00 AM

CHENEY — The Othello Huskies shook off the massive hit they took in the CWAC Crossover game to finish the 2018 season with a 5-6 record and a decisive win on the road over Cheney 27-7 Friday night.

“It’s been disappointing and it’s not the season we set out to play. But it was nice to go out with a win,” Othello assistant coach Kevin Hensley said.

The Huskies went into the final game of the season on a four-game skid, never quite rebounding after losing to both Ephrata and Ellensburg in the Kansas tiebreaker to decide the No. 1 seed in the CWAC North.

They did put together a two-game winning streak, which included a big win at Ellensburg, to get to the tiebreaker. The Huskies lost to Pullman in a nonleague game going into the tiebreaker and then dropped a 62-7 decision to Selah in the CWAC Crossover.

Friday’s win at Cheney sent 17 seniors off on a good note. They do return several key components to the offense including Isaiah Perez, a 6-foot-3, 245-pound running back that’s being recruited throughout the Pac-12 and has already been offered NCAA Division I scholarships from Brigham Young University and Howard University. Sophomore quarterback Logan Hollenback, Isaac Barragan, a junior running back, and wide receiver Efrain Palomares are all expected back.

Perez and Palomares were a big part of the Huskies defense this season and expected to step up into leadership roles down the road.
