Area distance runners compete well at WIAA state cross country championships
PASCO — The Columbia Basin sent its brightest and best cross country distance runners to the WIAA State Cross Country Championships at Sun Willows Golf Course in Paco on Saturday.
Three-time state qualifier Joshua Cooper of Moses Lake finished 104 in the final race of his high school career. Cooper was the lone Chief in the field and clocked a time of 16 minutes, 53.20 seconds to finish 104th in the Class 4A race.
Quincy’s Jane Kennedy (21:13.20) and Adrianna Redstar (21:36.70) of Ephrata finished in the top 75 in the 2A girls race. Kennedy was 53rd and Redstar finished 71st.
Wahluke’s Yerik Allerano (17:39.70) finished 53rd in the 1A boys race and Rudy Flores (17:50.40) of Royal was 68th. Flores dedicated his season and race to the memory of Silver Beltran, who passed away last summer.
In the 1A girls race, Royal’s Abby Delay (21:32.90) and Sydney Gilbert (21:44.50) finished 70th and 75th, respectively, to lead the Knight contingent.
