Basin roundup: Warden unable to complete second-half comeback in crossover game
UNION GAP — Warden could not erase a 14-0 halftime deficit to La Salle in its winner-to-state crossover game and lost 34-20.
Ayzaiah Pruneda began the comeback bid with a 63-yard touchdown run to begin the second half. Junior quarterback Ryan Arredondo threw two TD passes of seven and 20 yards, respectively, to Pruneda and Kaden Skone.
However, Warden was unable to slow La Salle’s Kieran Kershaw. Kershaw threw one touchdown and rushed for three more.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 76, Selkirk 0
COULEE CITY — Defending state champion Almira/Coulee-Hartline rolled to a 52-0 lead after one quarter and routed visiting Selkirk 76-0 in a crossover game.
Maguire Isaak tossed three touchdowns and ran for another. Hayden Loomis rushed for a touchdown, caught a 58-yard scoring strike from Isaak and returned an interception for a touchdown.
Sunnyside 42, Moses Lake 6
SUNNYSIDE — Moses Lake’s season ended with a 42-6 loss at host Sunnyside.
The Grizzlies missed the state tournament by one win due to only one berth being awarded to the Columbia Basin Big Nine this season.
Othello 27, Cheney 7
CHENEY — Othello shut out Cheney for the first three quarters and won 27-7.
Isaac Barragan had touchdown runs of five and two yards.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 54, Kettle Falls 6
RITZVILLE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague had little issue with winless Kettle Falls 54-6.
Conrad Ziemer and Austin Thompson had two rushing touchdowns apiece for the Broncos.
West Valley 33, Ephrata 7
SPOKANE — Hunter James caught a touchdown pass from Trenton Kleyn, however, Ephrata’s season ended in a 33-7 loss at West Valley.
The Eagles led 26-0 at halftime.

Cross country
PASCO — The Columbia Basin sent its brightest and best cross country distance runners to the WIAA State Cross Country Championships at Sun Willows Golf Course in Paco on Saturday.
Three-time state qualifier Joshua Cooper of Moses Lake finished 104 in the final race of his high school career. Cooper was the lone Chief in the field and clocked a time of 16 minutes, 53.20 seconds to finish 104th in the Class 4A race.
Quincy’s Jane Kennedy (21:13.20) and Adrianna Redstar (21:36.70) of Ephrata finished in the top 75 in the 2A girls race. Kennedy was 53rd and Redstar finished 71st.
Wahluke’s Yerik Allerano (17:39.70) finished 53rd in the 1A boys race and Rudy Flores (17:50.40) of Royal was 68th. Flores dedicated his season and race to the memory of Silver Beltran, who passed away last summer.
In the 1A girls race, Royal’s Abby Delay (21:32.90) and Sydney Gilbert (21:44.50) finished 70th and 75th, respectively, to lead the Knight contingent.

SELAH — Ephrata was unable to extend its season to a crossover match and lost to Selah in straight sets 25-19, 25-14, 26-24.
Wilson Creek denied return to state
MOSES LAKE — Wilson Creek was unable to return to the state volleyball tournament after losing to Pateros in five sets.
The Devils swept Riverside Christian in the first round.
College volleyball
Blue Mountain 3, Big Bend 0
MOSES LAKE — Blue Mountain swept Big Bend 25-13, 28-26, 25-22 to wrap up the regular season.
Sadie Nielsen had a match-high 18 kills and Ashlee Adams added 17 digs.
The improved Vikings finished the year 5-11 in the NWAC East.
