Moses Lake couple looking to bless the homeless

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake couple is looking for help from the public in their goal of not only meeting the physical needs of the local homeless population, but their spiritual needs as well.

On Oct. 13 the Rev. Beavers Curran and his wife Chaplain Lin Curran held a “greet and help” event at Neppel Park, but much to their dismay there was limited public participation in the event, other than support in the form of donations from several local businesses and a few community volunteers, in the passing out of sleeping bags, tents, tarps, beanies, gloves, wool socks and food items.

The Currans want to ramp up their efforts and are asking for additional donations from the public, which will be handed out to the homeless. Needed items include: small dome tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, 8x8- or 8x10-foot ground tarps, blankets, pillows, wool socks, flashlights, lanterns, batteries, beanies, gloves, hand warmers, non-perishable food items, small stoves that use propane and bibles. Monetary donations are accepted as well. Items and donations can be dropped off at Lake City Foursquare, 333 N. Central Drive.

The Currans want to go even further than that however and have goals of holding church services for the homeless.

“We are going to bring the church to them,” Beavers Curran said. “A lot of them they don’t feel comfortable going to church so we are going to try and bring the services to them.”

The plan is to hold a church service out behind the Moses Lake Walmart on Sunday about 2 p.m. Volunteers are needed and any questions can be answered by contacting the Currans at 509-714-5081 or 509-793-5557.
