Why vote for Terry Brewer Position 1 Grant County PUD?

| November 1, 2018 3:00 AM

Terry Brewer is the best-qualified candidate to continue in the position he has held for the past twelve years.

Terry Brewer is probably one of the most well-connected and powerful executives in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest Energy Industry. He is the most qualified candidate to continue in the position he has managed well for more than a decade.

Without his guidance and management skills, rates would be about 40 percent higher than today’s rates due to the need to buy additional power from the Bonneville Power Administration, had the two dams not been repaired with borrowed funding.

The $1.3 billion debt is being repaid out of current cash flow with annual rate increases not to exceed 2 percent. Power rates in Grant County will never be this low again due to inflation, costs of maintenance, equipment and materials necessary to maintain the existing infrastructure.

Industrial growth subsidizes residential, irrigation, small business classes of power users. Evolving industry could provide enough revenue to further bring down residential and farming costs based on studies conducted by the Infinite Freedom Foundation of Grant County staff and volunteers.

The faster industrial development occurs, the lower residential and farm rates will go. The budget contains plans sustaining long term service. The PUD must borrow funds in the bond market, and when it goes to market for funding, the bonds are usually oversubscribed by millions due to the high AA credit rating. The PUD will always need to borrow money to operate efficiently, just like any big business in America.

When re-elected Terry Brewer may well be the oldest, and perhaps the wisest, public official in Grant County when his term ends in 2024.
