Cooper answers questions – all you have to do is ask

On Oct 25, Michael J. Nordsten submitted a letter to the editor that suggested I had not been fully open about myself, my work experience, my time in the Navy, and insinuated that I was trying to hide something from my past. He referred to the candidate forum on Oct 8 as being particularly uninformative about who I am and what experience I had to be a successful county treasurer. The limited time available for speaking at the forums forces the candidates to focus on the most important information. After every forum I was available to answer individual questions for anyone. While my background and experience are definitely important, I have no less (and I would argue more) experience than my opponent did when he took office. Secondly, I am not aware of anything that would be of concern about my past. I am a very open person.

I have heard partial rumors and unsubstantiated accusations about some very large debts that a Casey Cooper has in Oregon. While I did grow up in Oregon, those accusations are categorically false and an attempt to undermine my support with the Grant County Republican Party who endorsed and contributed to my campaign. I have a great story from my past about mistaken identity that I will post on my website (Cooper4Treasurer.com) for anyone interested, as well as more on my background.

Speaking of websites, there are many ways to learn about the candidates: their websites, Facebook pages, email, and phone. I have called candidates for lieutenant governor and Congress, and (as I am) they are willing to spend a few minutes answering questions that are not addressed on their website. Please be courteous and don’t call too late at night or early in the morning.

I mentioned Duane Davidson because I spoke with him in person at the 2018 Lincoln Day Dinner to discuss running for county treasurer. He was not the only person whose counsel I pursued. I have never used the word “endorsed” as he did not give me an endorsement. He did tell me that he would be available to give me support if I won the election.
