Ephrata hurdlers reach finals on Day 1 of state track

TACOMA — Ephrata hurdlers McCall DeChenne and Brad Flanigan were able to reach finals on the first day of the Class 2A state track meet.

DeChenne was fifth in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.48 seconds. Flanigan, in the 110-meter hurdles, eked into finals with an sixth-place finish in 16.01 seconds.

DeChenne, who was the state champion in the 100 hurdles last year, will have some work to do to defend as league rival Tia Hill is the No. 1 seed after winning her heat in 15,08 seconds.

Soap Lake hurdlers compete in Cheney

CHENEY — Soap Lake’s Sierra Janikowski finished third in her preliminary race in the 300-meter hurdles to qualify for finals. Janikowski finished in 49.11 seconds.

Eagle teammate Juliana Hernandez missed the cut and was eighth in 51.81 seconds.
