Big Bend CC announces commencement speaker
MOSES LAKE — David Estudillo, Grant County Superior Court judge, will be the keynote speaker at Big Bend Community College commencement scheduled for June 15.
Commencement for the class of 2018, the 56th class to graduate, will be at 7 p.m. at Lions Field, behind Frontier Middle School. Commencement moved to Lions Field after graduating classes outgrew the Peter DeVries Activity Center on campus.
Estudillo is a native of Sunnyside and a graduate of the University of Washington. He entered the UW law school after earning a degree in finance.
He practiced law for 16 years before being appointed to a seat on the bench in Grant County. He won his first full term in 2016. Estudillo is the only judge of Latino descent on a state or municipal court in Eastern Washington.
Estudillo is “an active supporter of excellence in teaching and learning in our criminal justice and Trio program,” said BBCC president Terry Leas. “We are pleased to have Judge Estudillo address our graduates.”
Estudillo said he was “excited to celebrate commencement with the 2018 graduates. The knowledge and experience they grained at Big Bend is the foundation of their future success. I am honored for the opportunity to encourage to build on that foundation.”
