Spring Festival returns to Moses Lake this weekend

MOSES LAKE — Memorial Day is next Monday and the carnival is setting up at Frontier Middle School.

Which means that Spring Festival is coming to Moses Lake.

The more than four days of celebration marking the Memorial Day weekend — and the unofficial arrival of summer — will begin on Thursday evening with a concert by Blue Mustangs, the band fronted by KHQ’s Sean Owsley, in the amphitheater at McCosh Park from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by a free movie in the park sponsored by the Home Center.

Events on Friday begin at a little after noon with a demonstration by Freewind Martial Arts at 12:30 p.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. concert from the Moses Lake High School Choir, as 4:30 p.m. concert from the Moses Lake High School Band, a Salute to Our Veterans featuring the Combat Veterans Association, the country stylings of James Wesley from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a hot dog eating contest at 8 p.m., and concluding with a lip syncing contest featuring the songs of the late Michael Jackson beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday features parades, dancing, and basketball tournaments. The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with the 3-on-3 basketball tournament held on Third Avenue downtown, along with 5K and 10K runs beginning at the Surf n’ Slide, followed by a presentation from AIM Gymnastics at 11 a.m. In the park, CWA Cheer will show off dance and cheer skills at 12:30 p.m., followed by a concert from Voices of a New Day at 2 p.m., a performance by dance troupe Today’s Generation at 3 p.m. and No Limits at 5 p.m.

At the clock tower on Third Avenue, there will be a concert from the Park Orchard Elementary choir and instrumental ensemble at the clock at 11:30 a.m. followed eventually by the Sage Point Elementary School Marimba Band at 2:30 p.m.

Saturday will conclude with the Kiddie Parade down Third Avenue beginning at 6 p.m., a performance by Jeff Evans Magical Magicians at the clock tower, and then the Moonlight Parade at 8:15 p.m.

Sunday begins at McCosh Park with Church in the Park at 10 a.m., followed by a concert from Christian singer/songwriter Holly Starr at 1 p.m., classic rock and country from Rocklyn Road at 2:30 p.m, and hip hop from Sir Mix A Lot at 6 p.m.
