MAPD and DOL help community with licensing process

The Mattawa Police Department, along with the Department Of Licensing, hosted an event Monday evening to help answer questions and provide information to anyone looking to obtain a drivers license.

Hosted at Wahluke High School, Maybeline Panteleon, an officer with the MAPD, and Linda Strunk with the DOL in Moses Lake, met with community members to discuss the process and requirements for getting a drivers license.

Panteleon and Strunk have been holding the event for the past two years. The idea to create the event came about as Panteleon began to see more people driving without a license when pulling them over. More often than not, most of the people she encounters don’t mean to be driving without a license and express a genuine interest in obtaining one, but many do not know the proper procedure to go about getting one Panteleon explained.

She then decided it would be more beneficial to the community to try and help fix the problem by creating an avenue for people to get first-hand help with the licensing process. And from there she was able to team up with Strunk.

“I knew there was a need here,” said Panteleon.

Panteleon said that they plan to hold another event this year, which is slated to take place sometime in June.
