Stephen J. Hosszu

Stephen J. Hosszu was born in Hammond, Ind. on Nov. 14, 1944 to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hosszu. His father died in France inn World War II before he was born. He was named after the king of Hungary, who later became St. Stephen.

Stephen married Joann on April 10, 1976 and they had three children: Stephen G. Hosszu, Angela L. Carrillo, and James J, Hosszu. He lived in Moses Lake for 30 years. He enjoyed the city of Moses Lake and the many friends he and Joann met over there. Stephen had loved dogs, cats and ducks since he was very young. He was a loving father and husband for 42 years.

Stephen worked for Simplot in Quincy until the plant was sold to Quincy Foods. He later retired from Quincy foods. He was the first to have a retirement party at Quincy Foods. Later that day he celebrated his retirement with friends at Michael’s on the Lake.

His first job in Moses Lake was building potato sheds. He had never done anything like this and those sheds are still standing to this day. He also worked at Interlake Steel Mill, supervising 300 men and women.

Stephen was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 209 in Moses Lake and was also a lifetime member of the VFW. Stephen was a Vietnam veteran. He died of Agent Orange, a battle he fought for six months and lost.

Stephen has been a head elder at St John Lutheran church in Calumet City, Ill. He would read the Bible every night before he went to sleep.

Services were held April 28, 2018 in Ephrata at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Pallbearers were his brother-in-law Albert W Ahrendt, son Steve Hosszu, son James J. Hosszu, grandson Brandon Hosszu, brother Charles Hosszu and brother Dennis Hosszu.
