Royal Knights sweep Wahluke to close out the regular season

ROYAL CITY — The Knights were cocking on all cylinders in both games of the home twin bill with the Warriors May 1, taking the opener 11-1 and the nightcap 7-0.

Corbin Christensen pitched a 1-hit, 12 strikeout gem in Game 1. Royal held a 3-0 lead after two innings were in the books. The Warriors erased the goose eggs off the board bin the top of the third. The Knights blew the ball game wide open when Royal brought four runners across the dish in the home half of the frame. The Knights added one in the bottom of the fourth and three in the sixth to seal the win.

Sawyer Jenks led the Royal offensive attack going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and 1 RBI. Christensen helped his own cause with there hits in four at bats, two runs scored and1 RBI.

Game 2

Kevin Reyes tossed a no-hit shutout and fanned 12 Warriors in Game 2. Reyes also wielded the big stick for Royal going 2-for-3 at the dish with 2 RNI and a triple. The wins pushed the Knights to 9-5 in the SCAC East standings and nailed down the No. 4 seed to the district tournament. Royal hits the road May 8 to take on the West Conference No. 1 seed Naches Valley in the opening round on the Rangers home field.

“Naches is good on the mound and solid defensively,” coach Brandon Jenks said. “They are not really explosive on offense, but they make you earn everything you get.”

Sawyer Jenks gets the nod on the hill for Royal. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
