Banners and Blooms event sees large turnout
OTHELLO — Beautiful blooms, creative auction items, and an overall sense of community were just some of the ways Othello Beautification Committee president, Lynette Caruthers, would describe the fourth annual “Banners and Blooms” fundraising event held last Friday.
“It was a well attended, fun evening,” said Caruthers.
Hosted by the Othello Beautification Committee, the event was held at the Othello Senior Center and saw about 120 people in attendance. The tables were adorned with purple and yellow decorations throughout the room, and guests were treated to hors d’ oeuvres and wine. Proceeds from the event went toward the Othello Main Street Lighting and Beautification Project.
The project, Caruthers explained, includes providing more pedestrian lights, Christmas lights, banners and potted flowers along Main Street.
Through ticket sales and both the live and silent auctions, the committee was able to raise about $20,000 for the project said Caruthers.
Many of the auction items were garden themed and very well done Caruthers explained.
“Just some fabulous pieces, really beautifully done auction items,” said Caruthers.
Three area rodeo queens were also on hand to showcase auction items and help out where needed. Caruthers explained that the committee appreciated their help very much, and are also grateful to the Othello community for their continued support of their project.
Next up for the committee will be the purchase of street and Christmas lights. Members also hope to plant the flower pots to be placed along Main Street soon.
