Darcy was born on Nov. 29, 1959, in Ellensburg, Wash., to J. Dwaine and Anita McIntosh. Darcy was born with Down Syndrome and was not expected to live past 20 years of age. Despite being born without the ball of both femurs, after being healed in answer to prayer as a baby, she learned to walk and went on to live a very active and full life, to the amazement of her doctors and to the glory of God.
Darcy’s family moved to Moses Lake in 1971 where she attended school, graduating from Moses Lake High School in 1979, one of the first special-needs students to be awarded a modified diploma. As a student Darcy loved participating in Special Olympics, bowling and softball. After graduation she lived in several different adult family homes in Shelton, Othello, and Moses Lake. Darcy held several jobs over her adult life; she loved working and interacting with the public. Her favorites were Dairy Queen in Shelton and Subway in Othello. Darcy enjoyed traveling with friends and family; she had visited Disneyland and Hawaii and been on a cruise. She was a die-hard Seattle Mariners and WSU Cougars fan. Darcy’s greatest loves were Jesus and her family. She loved to go to church and read her Bible. She loved playing games and celebrating any occasion with friends and family.
Darcy lived life to its fullest and was blessed by many wonderful friends over her lifetime. Four years ago she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s which slowly took its toll. For the past 11 months Darcy was lovingly cared for by the staff of Ambitions Ray House.
She is survived by her mother Anita McIntosh and sisters Cheryl Harris and Lori (Lyle) VanWinkle. She was a special aunt and great-aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Dwaine McIntosh and grandparents.
Our lives were all impacted for good by having shared it with Darcy. She was truly a blessing to all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
