Manweller to speak at Republican Women's meeting
MOSES LAKE — Rep. Matt Manweller, R-Ellensburg, is the guest speaker at Tuesday’s Republican Women of Grant County meeting.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m., at Papa’s, located at 1165 N. Stratford Rd., in Moses Lake,
Manweller plans to provide an update on the last Legislative session, possible upcoming bills and the political landscape in the 2018 election cycle, he wrote Sunday in a text message to the Herald.
Discussion topics include what he considers some of the most important accomplishments of the last session, including the Hirst fix, making American government a required class for graduation, passing the capital budget and preventing the adopting of a carbon tax, income tax and capital gains tax. He will also address gun control bills.
It is becoming common practice to have rejected bills return in the form of initiatives, Manweller explained.
“I’m going to tell them that they should expect to see a variety of initiatives that float the idea of a carbon tax or a capital gains tax or even gun control,” he stated.
The state and country’s political future will be discussed as well.
“Are we going to continue with one party rule in Olympia or will there be divided government again?” he asked.
The Trump effect on local elections is another likely discussion topic.
