Huskies Softball clobbers Prosser on the diamond in Othello Friday

The Huskies ran rough shod over the Mustangs Saturday taking both games of the twin bills by a combined score of 27-0. The sweep over Prosser snapped a three — game skid and moved Othello (8-6) into a tie with Quincy (8-6) for third place in the CWAC standings with four games left in the regular season. The Jacks and Huskies butt heads in Quincy Friday.

The Huskies jumped up top 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Othello added seven runs in the bottom of the second and then added four runs in the fourth inning in the shortened contest that was called by the 10-run mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Paulina Nunez and Brenna Marquina combined for the one hit shutout. Nunez was untouchable, tossing three innings of no-hit ball and fanning nine Mustangs. Marquina gave up one hit and struck out four batters in two innings of relief.

Audisey Sauceda led the Huskies arsenal going 3-for-4 at the dish with two home runs. Malayah Sauceda and Janissa Garza had three hits in four at bats with a double each. Marquina was 2-for-3 with a double.

Prosser 0

Ori Vasquez and Audisey Sauceda combined for a one-hit shutout and Othello dominated Game 2. The Huskies led 1-0 after the first inning was in the books. Othello added four runs in the second, one in the bottom of the third and seven in the home half of the fourth in the five inning contest than was called by the mercy rule as well.

Othello hits the pavement to Quincy Friday and then closes out the regular season with a double header at home against winless Grandview. The postseason gets underway May 15 at Carlon Park in Selah.
