Big Bend College to sponsor summer career camp

MOSES LAKE — Registration is open for a program designed to introduce teens to careers in healthcare, criminal justice and mechatronics. “Serious Gaming: Search and Rescue” day camp is scheduled for July 16 to 20 and is sponsored by Big Bend Community College.
The program is open to youth 12 to 17 years of age, said BBCC communications coordinator Tiffany Sukola. The goal, said BBCC instructor Kristen McCrae, is to show kids some of their options for programs at BBCC and careers after college. McCrae is the college’s medical simulation instructor.
College officials also “wanted to provide kids with an exciting summer activity that was affordable for their parents,” Sukola wrote.
Space is limited to 65 participants. Cost is $175 per student before May 30, $225 per participant after May 30.
Participants will be introduced to BBCC’s criminal justice, mechatronics, healthcare and medical simulation programs by using the college’s equipment and materials.
Students will get a chance to fly drones, build items with a 3D printer, program a medical simulation mannequin. Activities also include practicing first aid and search rescue techniques, and working on a mock criminal investigation and trial. Students recap what they’ve learned in a presentation on the last day.
