Wahluke gets wins over Warden and Kiona-Benton on the pitch
MATTAWA — After dropping a 3-1 road match to Royal City, the Warriors have put together two consecutive wins with victories of Warden and Ki-Be.
Wahluke blanked the Cougars at home April 24, and then got past the Bears 3-2 on the road April 27.
“Warden seemed down on its numbers and we won 7-0,” coach Arthur de Victoria said. “We went to Kiona Benton and they were playing on senior night so they came out with a lot of passion and fire.”
The Bears took a 2-0 lead into the break. The Warriors Alex Valdez leveled the match with goals in the 75th and 78th minute off assists from Yerik Arellano and Jerardo Guerrero. Fernando Barajas gave Wahluke its first lead of the fuss on an unassisted goal in the 80th minute.
Ki-Be tied it 3-all and the match went to overtime.
“Neither team scored in the first overtime, but Edgar Villa scored in the second OT on an assist from Ricky Cabrera to finish the game and give us the win,” de Victoria said. “We travel to College Place on Tuesday, and begin Districts on Friday.
The match with the Hawks was ongoing when the paper went to press so the results were unavailable.
A Wahluke win over College Place will give the Warriors the No. 2 seed and match them up with the West’s No. 3 seed Naches Valley. A loss pits them against No. 2 seeded Highland. Win or lose the match will be played Friday at the higher seed.
