Basin roundup: Othello baseball wins district opener at East Valley
YAKIMA — Othello scored five unanswered runs to stun No. 3 seed East Valley in its district opener 7-1.
The Huskies led 2-1 after two innings before scoring three in the fourth inning and two in the sixth inning.
Josh Calzadillas pitched a complete game two-hitter with three strikeouts.
Gage Pruneda led the way offensively with two RBI. More, Jaxon Rocha and Jay Rodriguez drove in one run each.
Othello advances to play No. 2 Selah Saturday, 1 p.m., at Carlon Park.
Softball
Ephrata 16-13, Wapato 0-0
WAPATO — Ephrata blew out Wapato twice 16-0, 13-0 to entrench itself in the district playoff picture.
Rylee Peters and Jocelyn Eisen pitched a combined no-hitter in the opener. The pair had plenty of run support as the Tigers put 10 runs on the board in the second inning.
Peters was also 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Paige Wood and Paige Davis added three hits each.
In Game 2, Ephrata led 9-0 after one inning. Eisen recorded six strikeouts and was 4-for-4 with a double. Chantel Durfee, Kylar Heston and Jacey Heston had three hits apiece.
College baseball
Big Bend 12-1, Columbia Basin 11-7
PASCO — Big Bend maintained its third-place spot in the NWAC East with a split at Columbia Basin.
The Vikings won a slugfest in the opener 12-11 before losing the second game 7-1.
Derek Almanza and Sam Fagerness both hit their third home runs of the season in Game 1, helping the Vikings rally from a 10-5 deficit. Fagerness finished with four RBI and two runs scored.
