Dorothy Jean Calahan February 5, 1933 - March 21, 2018

Dorothy Jean Calahan died peacefully on March 21, 2018 in Yakima, Washington at the age of 85. She was born on February 5, 1933 in Greeley, Colorado to parents Finis and Maude Glendinning.

In 1944 her family moved to Richland, Washington where she graduated from Columbia High School in 1950. She graduated from University of Washington with a degree in Elementary Education. She returned to Richland to work for General Electric where she met her husband James.

They married on August 25, 1956. A year later they moved to Othello, Washington where she taught in the elementary grades for thirty years. In retirement Mrs. Calahan enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and reading. She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, sewed quilts for Lutheran World Relief, was a member of Buddy Andrews Orthopedic Guild, and volunteered at the Othello Food Bank.

Mrs. Calahan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carron and Allan Helberg of Yakima, Washington; three grandsons and one great grandson. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Keith Olenick of Enterprise, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband James, brothers Robert and Finis, and her sister Eileen. Mrs. Calahan was buried in a private ceremony and no public services are planned.
