MOSES LAKE — Making a space into a home is certainly no easy task. When people set out to turn their dreams of a forever home into a present reality a helping hand is always appreciated. That's where events like Saturday’s Central Washington Home Show come in to remind people of the last-minute small things that are needed for a home, as well as the big things that can go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

“I noticed that they have DirecTV in there and I instantly realized that when our new house is finished we will have all this beautiful furniture and stuff, but no TV or cable. I like going to this kind of stuff, because you can either buy something or whatever, or jot down a couple of ideas for the future,” Cassidy Robbins remarked after leaving Saturday’s Home Show.

Saturday’s event, which was held at the Grant County Fairgrounds, was organized by Columbia Basin Publishing, the Columbia Basin Herald’s parent company. Hundreds of people came out to the Home Show just to see what all of the excitement was all about, as companies ranging from, as Robbins pointed out, DirecTV, to Lowe’s Home Improvement, Lexar Homes, Home Depot and Bekins Northwest had booths and products to detail to attendees.

“I was looking around here at what they got and my wife instantly went to some booth. But my eye was caught by the lineup of cars and trucks they had at the back. It reminded me that having a good, reliable work truck is an important piece to creating a home. I mean who is going to haul all this stuff without a truck?” Jacob Larentz remarked with a grin.

Walking around the event it was clear that one of the more popular booths was that of Moore Furniture. Representatives from the Ephrata store pulled out all the stops for the show, including recliners and entertainment centers, which became popular draws for most attendees. The event wasn't only geared toward adults, however, as there was activities for the kids and free giveaways throughout the event. The main focus of the Home Show was the products and services however and conversations were plentiful between Home Show attendees and representatives from businesses.

“It was a miracle that my wife and I left there without going broke,” Larentz joked. “There is a lot of good things and if nothing else, we have a good starting point for future planning.”
