Rachel H. Jalomo

Rachel Hernandez Jalomo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, with her daughters Rebecca “Becky” Jalomo and Debbie J. Martinez at her bedside at the Hospice House in Spokane, Wash.

Rachel was born in Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato, Mexico. She was the daughter of Jose V. and Maria de Jesus Hernandez. The family migrated from Mexico to Texas and later settled in Moses Lake, Wash. The family became naturalized resident citizens and later U.S. Citizens.

On Oct. 9, 1965 she married Roberto Jalomo of Laredo, Texas. Together they made their home in Moses Lake, Wash., where they raised their daughters Becky Jalomo and Debbie Martinez. On May 12, 1983 Roberto lost his battle with cancer.

In 1975 Rachel earned her GED and receptionist training at BBCC. She became employed at Carnation/Nestle/JR Simplot where she gave 40-plus years of service. Her longest position she held was in Human Resources. Rachel also enjoyed gardening, caring for her roses and she loved listening and dancing to Tejano music.

Rachel was diagnosed with Stage III cancer in June 2017. She was very determined to fight against the cancer; unfortunately that battle ended eight months later on March 7, 2018.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents Jose V and Maria de Jesus Hernandez, her brother Roberto Hernandez and her sister Mary H Gonzalez as well as two infant siblings.

She is survived by her daughters Becky Jalomo and Debbie J. and Efren Martinez; her grandsons Robert Ruiz, Jordan D. and Peter R. Manville; her sisters Olga H. and Daniel Gonzalez, Frances H. and Danny Jalomo, Carmen H. Oronia, JoAnn H. Reyes, Gloria H. and Joe Martinez, Josie Hernandez and Yolanda H. and Juvencio Hernandez and also many nieces and nephews.
