Outlook for Othello Boys Golf optimistic

The Huskies are looking to build off their fourth place finish in CWAC league play last year and will expect to do so on key returning golfers sprinkled with some new young talent.
“Sophomore Patrick Azevedo is returning this year after winning the 2A State title last season at Qualchan in Spokane last season. He is the natural leader of the team,” coach Brian Lumsden said. “His brother Samuel (senior) is also returning this season. The team will be strengthened by the humble play of juniors Jonathan Ozuna and Isaiah Garza, and sophomore Nathan Roosma. We’ve added seven new young players into the system, but it will take some time to see how they progress.”
The overall team strength for the 2018 season, Lumsden said, is the pressure the Huskies put on themselves to gather a competitive team within the league and at invitational tournaments. He sees Ephrata, Selah, East Valley, Prosser, and Quincy as the teams to contend with this year.
Patrick Azevedo was the 18-hole medalist with a round of 79. Roosma was the 9-hole medalist. Ozuna shot a personal best 89. The Huskies finished first among the nine teams that competed in the event. Ephrata was a close second.
Team scoring was based on a non-traditional format: two 18-hole scores and two 9-hole scores combining for a team score. Othello ended play with 263 team points. Ephrata recorded 272. East Valley placed third with 274.
League play gets underway in April.
