Prep roundup: Warden softball strands too many runners against CE-R

| March 16, 2018 1:00 AM

WARDEN — Warden left too many runners on base and lost twice to Cle Elum-Roslyn.

The Warriors scored all four of their runs in one inning to take the first game 4-3. In the second game, the Warriors scored three runs each in the third and fourth inning to win 6-4. Game 2 was called after four innings due to darkness.

Cle Elum-Roslyn is consistently a top team in the SCAC West and reached the state tournament last year.

“It was a good matchup for us,” head coach Wes Richins said.

Jizelle Pruneda was in the circle for both outings. Pruneda totaled 11 strikeouts and three walks over 11 innings.

Warden had its opportunities in Game 1, however, they left the bases loaded twice over the final three innings.

Pruneda was 3-for-4 with a RBI; Leanne Martinez and Alexia Hernandez had two hits each.

Warden once again stranded runners in scoring position in the night cap. The Cougars had runners on second and third with no outs in the fourth inning but could not convert.

Bailey Whitney tripled in both games and Amanda Contreras was 2-for-2 with a double in Game 2.

Warden opens SCAC East play at College Place on Saturday.

QUINCY — Arturo Avila scored three second-half goals and Cascade beat Quincy 4-1.

“We’ve just got to fix a few things,” head coach Arturo Guerrero said.

Yordi Coronel scored Quincy’s lone goal in the 72nd minute on a penalty kick.

Quincy out-shot Cascade 15-7, however, playing with a reserve goalie the Jacks made just one save to the Kodiaks’ six.
