Annual Othello Cleanup a success, another weekend scheduled to continue work
About 40 volunteers, scout and church groups, assembled at the Othello School District administration building Saturday morning to lend a hand in the annual Othello Cleanup.
“I was just thrilled with the turnout,” said Lynette Caruthers, who helped organize the event. “And the people who participated really seemed to enjoy themselves.”
Volunteers gathered at 8 a.m. before heading out on various routes, streets around town, picking up any and all trash or debris they saw. The Adams County Landfill allowed them to dump the refuse for free during the event said Caruthers.
Everyone was free to come and go as they pleased she explained, but most worked until the job was done. The majority of the volunteers expressed how much they enjoyed the experience and will now be more careful about what they throw out said Caruthers.
“It was so cool,” said Caruthers. “It’s absolutely life changing. It was a wonderfully successful day.”
Caruthers said that the results of all their efforts made a huge difference how the town looked, and is grateful for everyone who showed up to help out despite the cold morning temperatures.
Though much of the work has been done, there is still plenty more left to do for volunteers willing to work a second weekend. So it was decided to expend their efforts once again on Saturday, Mar. 17 to focus on the areas of Bench Road, Main Street, and 14th.
Caruthers explained that additional volunteers are still welcome to join and would greatly appreciated.
