Prep roundup: Ephrata boys soccer blitzes Prosser in first half, wins comfortably
PROSSER — Ephrata is out to prove it didn’t trip, fall and land in last year’s CWAC district tournament.
Ephrata opened its season with a 1-1 tie against Class 1A state runner-up Wahluke and a 3-1 victory over Cascade, also a 1A state placer.
Tuesday, in a non-league game with Prosser, the Tigers dominated from the opening minute and won 6-2.
“We want to prove that last year wasn’t a fluke,” head coach Ivan Garay.
Caleb Dwyer scored in the first minute and it was on from that point. Danny Ramirez scored twice, Arbey Guerrero and Juan Mendoza added one goal apiece in the first 40 minutes.
“I think we just kind of knocked the air out of them,” Garay said.
Josh Benthem notched the Tigers’ final goal in the second half.
Othello 1, Ellensburg 0
ELLENSBURG — Othello fired shot after shot toward the Ellensburg goal, but had to wait 70 minutes to break through in its 1-0 road win.
Freshman Naudys Borrero fed a ball to Juan Orozco who beat Ellensburg’s keeper one-on-one for the game’s lone goal.
The Huskies sprayed 25 shots every which way.
“We just could not finish,” head coach Bernie Garza said.
Wenatchee 2, Quincy 1
QUINCY — Quincy nearly toppled Class 4A Wenatchee, but surrendered two goals in the second half and lost 2-1.
“It was a very, very emotional, intense game,” head coach Arturo Guerrero said.
Saul Buenrostro gave the Jacks a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.
However, the Panthers rallied with goals from Farace Nassar in the 65th minute and Eric Saldivar in the 74th minute.
