Volunteer bailiffs needed for Grant County Superior Court
EPHRATA — If you have ever wanted to be a part of the court system in Grant County on a volunteer basis, then check out Grant County’s volunteer bailiff program.
Bailiffs are essentially tasked with helping “guide and familiarize jurors during jury trials,” according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. If chosen, a volunteer bailiff will be paid $10 a day, plus mileage if they live outside city limits.
The volunteer bailiff program started back in 1990 with the idea of giving the courtroom bailiffs for jury trials, while not impacting the court’s budget.
“The idea is to maintain a corps of trained bailiffs. Our goal is to provide a necessary service while giving Grant County citizens a unique opportunity to be involved in the court system,” reads a statement from Grant County Superior Court. “The Volunteer Bailiff has charge of the jury and acts as the judge’s ‘arms and legs’ during court sessions. We rarely, if ever, require attendance beyond normal business hours.”
