All the Light We Cannot See

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anthony Doerr will talk about his book All the Light We Cannot See in Wenatchee on Apr. 20.

Tickets for this free event at the Numerica Performing Arts Center can be reserved starting at 10 a.m. March 15 either at the box office or online at www.numericapac.org.

Doerr’s 7 p.m. talk will also be live-streamed to a room in the adjoining Wenatchee Convention Center for anyone who isn’t able to get tickets. People who watch the live-stream will still be able to meet the author and get books signed after his talk.

If you can’t make it to Wenatchee, the talk will also be live-streamed to several branch libraries on April 20. They are Grand Coulee, Okanogan, Twisp, Moses Lake, Royal City, Tonasket and Ephrata. The Royal City Public Library will also host a book discussion prior to the live-stream beginning at 6 p.m.

Every spring, NCRL encourages everyone in its five-county library district to read one book and talk about it in their communities. This year, NCRL is also hosting an online book club for anyone who wants to discuss the book on Facebook.

All the Light We Cannot See has been one of the most requested titles for book clubs in North Central Washington and was the most checked-out book from NCRL libraries for two years. It tells the story of a blind French girl and an orphaned German boy whose lives intersect during World War II.

Doerr, who lives in Boise, Idaho, was awarded the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for fiction and the 2015 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction for the novel.

“Readers love the characters whose personal narratives are unique to the canon of World War II books,” said Angela Morris, NCRL’s director of public services. “Our goal is for people around the library district to enjoy reading this beautifully written and thought-provoking book that will spark conversation.”

She added, “We are honored to host such a high-caliber, Pulitzer Prize-winning author for the 2018 NCRL Reads program.”

Doerr has also won a number of other literary awards for his books The Shell Collector, Memory Wall, Four Seasons in Rome and About Grace.
