Living 'Life on Mission'

Easter is just around the corner and many will be invited to the church for Easter service. This is good news. It may only be one of the two days they enter the church this year. The good news is we all will hear how Jesus died and rose from the grave.

A great book I would recommend is called “Life on Mission” by Tim Harlow. The following is a few of his writings from the book. Tim shares with us that over 195 million people here in the U.S. don’t go to church. As I read through these numbers four questions came to my mind: Do they believe in the church? Do they know what the church is? Who is the church? Why should they want to go to church? These are all good questions.

Many people today understand the church as a building or associate it with a denomination. The church is not a building or a denomination. According to the Bible, the church is the body of Christ — all those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. Local Christian churches are gatherings of members of the universal church.

Today’s church looks very different from what it was 20 years ago. It looks very different from 50 or 100 years ago. “Life on Mission” speaks of how Jesus was on mission and that we to are to be on mission. Tim writes we are to be the light in our communities. We must not be bound by the walls but break through them to reach the lost as Jesus reached them.

In the book it says we are to seek others, build relationships, and love on our neighbors. The key to this is for all of us is to reach out to others using ways we are familiar with. Are you hungry? Have a barbecue and invite your neighbor over.

Light of Larson is an outreach focused church that is living life on mission. We search out ways that we can connect with the people, schools and businesses in our community. Through our back to school events, hosting block party barbecues or building partnerships with the local leaders, we are here to serve others as Jesus would.

This Easter don’t just invite someone to church, bring them with you. Be the church today in your home or where you work and then show people where we gather together as believers in Christ.
