GEORGE — Two people were injured on Wednesday near George after a driver attempted to pass another vehicle.

About 4 p.m. Marcos Perez-Long, 22, of Mattawa, was driving a 1989 Toyota Camry north on state Route 243, about 12 miles south of George, when he attempted to pass another vehicle. Perez-Long reportedly didn’t have enough time to complete the pass and over-corrected. The Camry left SR-243 to the right and came to a rest on its top. The northbound SR-243 lane was blocked for 35 minutes as crews cleared the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Perez-Long was injured in the collision and transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center. Perez-Long’s passenger, Diego Ramirez-Vasquez, 24, of Moses Lake, was injured as well and airlifted from the scene to Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital in Yakima for treatment.

The patrol reports the collision is under investigation and citations are pending.
