AppleSox win 2 of 3 in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The Wenatchee AppleSox won the rubber game of the three-game series in Port Angeles on Sunday, taking a one-run game 8-7.

Wenatchee (7-10) scored two runs in the top of the eighth to provide the margin of victory in a game where they scored eight runs on 13 hits. Gonzaga produce Mason Marenco was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run.

Conner McCord had two doubles in a two-hit performance. Jake Taylor and Evan Williams also had a couple of hits apiece for the Sox, who are slowly moving toward the .500 mark in the West Coast League. Right-hander Curtis Bafus of Woodinville threw six strong innings in relief, striking out four and scattering seven hits.

The AppleSox have Monday off.

Lefties 13, AppleSox 8

The AppleSox (6-10) had eight or more runs and 12 hits for the second straight day, but dropped the second in three-game series against the Port Angeles Lefties (10-10).

Nolan McCafferty led the AppleSox with three hits and a walk.

The AppleSox’s only lead of the game came early when Joey Magro started with a walk to leadoff the game. Mason Marenco singled to put runners at the corners, Jacob Prater grounded out to short to drive in Magro.

Port Angeles sent 11 men to the plate in the fourth and scored six runs. The Lefties capped their scoring with another run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Prater grounded out to third in the fifth inning for his second RBI of the game and his fifth RBI in the last four days.

AppleSox 9, Lefties 7

The AppleSox (6-9) scored twice in the 10th inning to win the series opener in their first extra-innings game of the season.

Evan Williams hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to bring in the game-winning run and Joey Magro followed with an RBI single to pad the lead.

Magro (.351) went 3-for-6 with three RBI for the AppleSox, who scored nine runs on 12 hits. Wenatchee had nice production from the bottom half its order with Kody Darcy, Jake Taylor and Isaac Barrera producing two hits apiece hitting six, seven, eight in the order, respectively.

With the win, the AppleSox have now taken the first game in four of five West Coast League series this season.
