June 16, 1932 – June 3, 2018

Dr. George E. Black was born in Everett, Wash. on June 16, 1932, and passed away in Richland on June 3, 2018. He was the son of Erwin S. Black and Mabel Black. He was 85 years old.

After graduating Kennewick High School, he went on to the University of Washington. As an outstanding football star for the Huskies, he made No. 9’s jersey famous back in 1952. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, and graduated the UW Dental and Orthodontic schools before settling in Moses Lake. He also served two years in the United States Air Force.

George married his college sweetheart Judith Cameron in 1955. They lived in Moses Lake for over 50 years. Together, they built a thriving orthodontic practice, raised a family, and built their dream home on the lake.

He lived life to the fullest and was involved in many community endeavors: the Manta Ray Swim team and Little League baseball, and also served on the Moses Lake School Board. He was an avid outdoorsman.

He was deeply passionate about hunting and fishing with his family; they all took multiple trips to Sekiu, Telegraph Cove and Orcas Island, and enjoyed razor clam digs at Iron Springs off the coast. He would hunt elk and deer with his son Eric, his good friend Cal Courtright and step-father Bill Tenneson. He thoroughly enjoyed gardening, and took pride in his raspberries and tomatoes.

Dad also enjoyed water skiing on Moses Lake and organized many fun outings in the dunes down south. Family friends such as the Courtrights, Hollingberys, Bellomys, Dinhams, and Vrielings all took part in the water fun.

George and Judy took up snow skiing later in life and enjoyed many trips to Sun Valley in Idaho, and visited old friends John and Ruth Jones.

Dad had many deep personal and professional friends both within dentistry and the greater community. We will always remember his kindness and generosity to all, as well as his loving and compassionate devotion to his wife and family.

Our father is survived by his three children Susan Black-Smith (Prentice Smith) of Stanwood, Barbara Black (Jon Olsen) of Moses Lake, and Eric Black (Dr. Lilo Mannion- Black) of Pasco. His grandchildren include Sarah Smith, Bryan Black and Brady Black.

Dad, we will miss you every day and cherish all of our memories together. The examples of how you lived will serve us well until we meet again.

There will be a celebration of life at the First Presbyterian Church in Moses Lake on July 7 at 11:30 a.m. with lunch following.
