John Sylvan Dazell

| June 13, 2018 3:00 AM

It is with great sadness that the family of John Sylvan Dazell announces his passing on June 1, 2018 at the age of 71 years old.

Born and raised in Ephrata, the son of Grayce and Arthur Dazell, he was a longtime resident of Grand Coulee.  John spent his winters in Yuma, Ariz. with his loving wife Cherie but always called eastern Washington home. Throughout his life he found ways to live life to the fullest: taking his kids on ski trips, riding motorcycles, boating with his good friends, taking the grandkids on Papa RV trips and much more.  He loved having coffee and telling stories with the “guys,” watching his grandkids play all of their sports, playing practical jokes and laughing with friends.

John retired after over 30 years of law enforcement service, having served with the Ephrata Police Department and Quincy Police Department before transferring to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

During his 25-year career with the Sheriff’s Office, John served as a dispatcher, corrections officer, patrol deputy, major crimes detective and patrol sergeant and retired in 2004 as a chief deputy.

John is survived by his children John Curtis (Heather) Dazell and Merilee (Jeff) Riely; stepchildren Chad (Kaci) Kiser and Jason (Janet) Kiser and grandchildren Nicholas Dazell, Amanda Riely, Emma Dazell, Samantha Riely, Tanner Kiser, Kaitlyn Kiser, Carson Riely and Colby Kiser.

John is predeceased by his wife Cherie Dazell and parents Grayce and Arthur Dazell.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given in John’s honor to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, PO Box 37, Ephrata, WA 98823.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stratefuneralhome.com for the Dazell family.  Strate Funeral Home of Grand Coulee, Wash. is serving John’s family.
