August 22, 1954 – May 26, 2018

Roland Vasquez Gutierrez died May 26, 2018 at Central Washington Medical Center, after a long battle against MDS. He was born Aug. 22, 1954 in San Antonio, Texas to Juan and Josephine Gutierrez. The family moved to Othello, Wash. where Roland attended school. At 17 he joined the Army National Guard where he would earn his GED. He eventually would serve full-time in the Army.

After his service, he spent many years working in agriculture around central Washington. He found his perfect job in truck driving, because it allowed him to see more of the country he loved. Wanting to spend more time with his family, he took a job driving local for Simplot, where he worked until he got sick.

Roland was happiest when working, and spending time with his family or relaxing at home with a glass of wine watching “M*A*S*H.” He loved going on road trips with his wife; their favorite destinations included Leavenworth, craft bazaars and casinos. After 36 years together he and Carla had their dream wedding in Las Vegas with many family and friends in attendance.

He loved caring for his two dogs, Ivy and Duchess. He was a proud patriot to his country, and flew the flag every Fourth of July. He was an avid Seattle sports fan and really enjoyed attending the games with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Carla; daughters Cynthia Dorn and Linda Realme and son Alexander Gutierrez; four grandkids and several great-grandkids; mother Josephine; four brothers; three sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Juan and stepson Sean.

He will be remembered as a great man with a heart of gold. He will be very missed.

There will be an open house Celebration of Roland’s life on June 9 from 2-5 p.m. at his home at the Sage Hills golf Course in Warden to honor him.
