Anderson captures Evinrude
For the second straight year, two Moses Lake fishermen dominated the annual Evinrude Anglers Derby on Potholes Reservoir and Moses Lake this weekend.
The total field was down from last year, 95 contestants, compared to 116 at the 1978 tournament. The annual bass tourney is hosted by the Potholes Bass Club and sponsored by Evinrude and Pier 4.
The fishing duo of Bob Anderson and Tex Sword, who fished as partners, once again dominated the top spots.
Anderson, who won the 1978 tournament, successfully defended this title with a two-day catch of 40 pounds, 15 ounces. Sword, who finished third last year, was close behind Anderson with 40 pounds, 10 ounces, and also won the drawing for a boat motor.
Third place went to Pat Haddican, also of Moses Lake, with a 13-pound, 12-ounce catch.
Grant Rowlette of Kennewick received the plaque for the biggest bass Saturday at 4 pounds, 14 ounces. Haddican had the biggest bass of the tourney at 6 pounds, 9 ounces caught Sunday in Moses Lake.
The top three place finishers received plaques at Pier 4, Sunday’s tournament headquarters. MarDon Resort served as Saturday’s headquarters.
Of the 95 entered, 44 contestants caught fish, 132 total bass during the two-day tournament.
Finishing in fourth place, for the second straight year, was Kennewick’s Ron Kimball. He finished with 13 -pounds, 8 ounces. Post Falls Richard Webb placed fifth with 12 pounds, 8 ounces.
Government delays talks
An Interior Department official says the federal government will delay negotiations with Washington State on fishing rights issues until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the Bolt decision.
Interior Solicitor Leo M. Krulitz last week notified Governor Dixy Lee Ray and state Attorney General Slade Gordon of the government’s position.
Meeting set
A special town meeting will be conducted at the George City Hall Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., by the George City Council.
The town meeting will be to discuss whether the city council should accept a petition on a piece of property Colonial Farms wants annexed to the city.
Series set for mothers
La Leche League of Moses Lake will meet at 10 a.m. until noon Thursday at the home of Karen Dietzen. The session will be the first in a series of four meetings on the advantages of breast feeding. All interested women and their children are invited.
