Bernell M. Leitzke

| July 30, 2018 3:00 AM

Bernell M. Leitzke was born and raised in Wolford, N.D., daughter of Tom and Mabel Lima. She passed away Monday, July 23, 2018 in Spokane, her family at her side. Bernell graduated from Minot State Teachers College and moved to Moses Lake, Wash. in 1959 to start her teaching career. She was married to Duane Leitzke in August 1960 and they were married for 51 yrs.

Bernell taught at Moses Lake School District for several years before teaching for the Japanese Agricultural Training Program in conversational English, a job she loved. Bernell was an avid gardener and waited for spring every year to plant usually way more flowers than there was room for. She also loved to cook and bake, especially at Christmas where there was always goodies to be delivered to many. And then there was the Gonzaga Bulldogs; she rarely missed a game. On game day the flag went up in front of the house and there was no reason to call her during a game because she wouldn’t answer. She was most proud of her grandson Jaxon, bragging and showing pictures whenever she could, she really wished she could have seen him start Kindergarten.

Bernell was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Duane.

She is survived by her two brothers Don and Bud (Jerri) Lima of Wolford, N.D, son Jeff, daughter Karen, granddaughter Kelsy and great-grandson Jaxon.

We will truly miss her.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 200 N. Dale Rd., Moses Lake. Please sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory.
