Warden still looking for council member

WARDEN — The Warden City Council is still looking for a few good people to help govern the city.

“We still need another couple of council people,” said Mayor Tony Massa at the start of a regular council meeting on Tuesday.

The five member council is down to three, plus the mayor, following the resignation of Michael Leavitt in early April and Kayla Kight in May.

Leavitt resigned following his arrest in late March for voyeurism while working as a substitute teacher for the Warden School District.

Kight said she and her husband were leaving Warden temporarily to take care of a friend in Arizona who has cancer.

However, City Administrator Kristine Shuler told the council that Kight has said she and her husband will be returning.

“Kayla Kight is coming back to town,” Shuler said. “We don’t know when yet, but she is coming back.”

Massa said the qualifications to sit on the Warden town council were simple — be a registered voter who lives inside the city limits.

“We’re looking for someone who cares about the city of Warden,” said Council member Byron Starkey.
