'Just' a bus driver?

| July 26, 2018 3:00 AM

I am running for the position of Grant County Auditor. It has been brought to my attention that, in the course of this campaign, my qualifications have been called into question, specifically my work as a school bus driver. That is correct in stating my current occupation; however, I would like to expand on it. No one is “just” a bus driver.

I take my job, picking up and bringing our city’s children safely home, with great pride. Having a parent of one of “my kids” take time from their day to board my bus and tell me I have made a difference in their child’s day, is the highest compliment I can receive. My experience of being a business owner for 36 years, serving on Moses Lake Planning Commission, past Moses Lake Councilman, Grant County Health District Board and yes, Moses Lake School District bus driver, will aid me in serving as Auditor.

I have run for different public offices in the past. Win or lose, I have always run a clean campaign without resorting to mud slinging or focusing on negative aspects of my opponents. This campaign will be no different, I pledge to finish this race with honor. I will not be giving my attentions toward the opposite. It is my hope that my opponent will do the same. Anything less than that, leaves a bad taste in the public’s mind. I think we have all had enough of that.

Regardless if the statement was intended to be meant as a compliment, I choose to take it as such. Thank you. Whomever you choose to vote for in the upcoming elections, please vote and encourage those you know to vote also. It is our right, so please utilize that right.
