Firefighters stomp out Moses Lake blaze

MOSES LAKE — On a Columbia Basin night where there was little wind firefighters were able to stomp out a wildfire near Moses Lake Monday afternoon before it got out of control.
The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. near a residence off of Road K Northeast and was reportedly caused by a spark from a lawn mower. Firefighters with Grant County Fire District No. 5 quickly responded to the scene quickly to protect a home near the blaze. Around 20 homes in the area were put on a Level 3 evacuation notice, meaning they were in immediate fire danger, and Road K was blocked off between Road 5 Northeast and Road 7 Northeast.
There were no reported injuries and the fire was reported to be under control around 5:15 p.m. An exact number of the acres burned was not available on Monday.
